Midwifery Student of the Year Success at National Awards

A School of Healthcare Sciences student has again won a top prize at the annual Nursing Tines Student Awards held each year in London. Following in the footsteps of previous category winners from Bangor this year Laura Thomas won the Student Midwife of the year category at the Student Nursing Times Awards 2018. The Nursing Times judges highlighted Laura as “clearly a future leader for midwifery”.

Sheila Brown Midwifery Programme Lead said “We are delighted for Laura and that one of our midwifery students has achieved this award. Laura showed an interested in leadership early in the programme. She has been a midwifery society committee member since year 2 and has recently engaged in the Council of Deans leadership programme. Student midwives on the programme here at Bangor University are committed to providing evidence based, woman centred care, and Laura is no exception. It is wonderful to see her commitment to and passion for midwifery rewarded in this way. Well done Laura!”

These sentiments were echoed by Head of School Professor Chris Burton who said “Congratulations Laura. This award for Laura is yet more recognition, after successes in previous years, of not only the quality of our students but also of our degrees and the teaching, learning and placement experiences provided by our staff and BCUHB. “
