Bangor students scoop inaugural Nurse of the Year Awards

 

Two Bangor University students from the School of Healthcare Sciences received awards at the inaugural ceremony of the Royal College of Nursing, Nurse of the Year award in Cardiff recently. Georgina Hobson           Georgina Hobson

Both students had made it through to be finalists for the Nursing Student award, one of 10 awards presented to Welsh healthcare professionals. Georgina Hobson, who comes from Llandudno Junction, was awarded the Student Nurse Award for 2013 and Anthony Green, from Penmaenmawr, was awarded the Runner Up prize. They received £500 and £250 respectively           

Both have just completed their studies at Bangor University where they studied Nursing, specialising in Learning Disabilities Nursing.  They are set to graduate in July 2013.

Dr Malcolm Godwin, Head of the School of Healthcare Sciences, said “This is an excellent achievement for the students and also for Bangor University. It shows the commitment of our students and the excellent standard of teaching at the School of Healthcare Sciences. I’ve no doubt that these two students will make a significant contribution to the nursing profession throughout their careers”.

Georgina Hobson is now working for the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board as a Behaviour Analyst in the complex needs service, based at Bryn y Neuadd, in Llanfairfechan.
