Bangor Students and staff shortlisted in Student Nursing Times Awards 2019

Two students and two lecturers in Bangor University’s highly ranked School of Health Sciences have been shortlisted in several of this year’s Student Nursing Times Awards.

Head of school Professor Chris Burton said “I am thrilled that two of our students have been recognised in the shortlisting of these awards for their great dedication to their fields.

“I would also like to offer my sincere congratulations to both members of staff who have both made a great contribution to their teaching teams, students experience and the wider school.”

The shortlisted awards are as follows:

Educator of the Year: Stephen Prydderch

Educator of the Year: Julie Roberts

Outstanding Contribution to Student Affairs: Nicola Williams

Student Nurse of the Year: Learning Disability: Kate Young

Midwifery lecturer Julie Roberts was shortlisted for educator of the year after being nominated by some of her students “It was a wonderful surprise to receive notification of the shortlisting for the Nursing Times Educator of the Year Ward, and it meant so much that this had come from the students themselves.

“I am looking forward to representing the School at the forthcoming event and, hopefully, we can bring it home!”

Nicola Williams was overjoyed to be shortlisted “I am overwhelmed in being shortlisted for the nomination. I am proud to be representing Bangor University and have enjoyed helping improve things here at the Wrexham Campus for students.

“I have enjoyed meeting perspective students and being a peer guide helping new students settle in. As the events coordinator of the nursing society, I have enjoyed organising events for the students at the Wrexham Campus, including our healthcare science ball. I would like to thank my personal tutor Dianne for taking the time to nominate me.”

Stephen Prydderch is an Adult Nursing Lecturer based in the schools Wrexham campus “I am completely overwhelmed that students have felt that I deserve nominating for an award with the Student Nursing Times.

“It has come as a real surprise, but I am delighted to represent our school, and I realise that my contributions to teaching and improving the student experience, are a reflection of the wider contributions of our excellent teaching team”

This follows a series of shortlisting’s for the school in previous years including last year in which seven students were shortlisted for various awards and Midwifery student Laura Thomas received the award for Midwifery student of the year.

The winners of the awards will be announced on Thursday 26th April 2019 at an award ceremony in London and the School wishes all our entrants the best of luck.
